چکیده

Developing countries are disproportionately affected by natural hazards and lack of coping capacities. 15 This combination sets back progress on poverty alleviation slows long-term development, 16 contributing the aggravation many obstacles already faced these their 17 communities. Probabilistic risk assessment models increasingly popular tools for estimating 18 potential human economic loss due to hazards. Within such a context, modeling 19 developing presents specific challenges in terms quantity quality available input 20 data at all components risk: hazard, exposure, vulnerability. Physical vulnerability modelling in natural hazard risk assessment

An evaluation of the risk to an exposed element from a hazardous event requires a consideration of the element’s vulnerability, which expresses its propensity to suffer damage. This concept allows the assessed level of hazard to be translated to an estimated level of risk and is often used to evaluate the risk from earthquakes and cyclones. However, for other natural perils, such as mass moveme...

Digital Elevation Modelling for natural hazard risk assessment

Introduction The application of geographic information systems (GISs) to natural hazard risk management is a relatively new and emerging science. Coppock (1995) notes that GIS has made a contribution to various facets of natural hazard risk management since risk is a multi-dimensional and multidisciplinary phenomenon, which have a spatial component, whatever their initial focus. Hence, the succ...

Cardiovascular Risk Assessment and Management in Developing Countries

Causes of the burgeoning cardiovascular epidemic in developing countries (DC) are known. Whilst there are many prevention strategies and policies demonstrated to be effective in reducing the trends of cardiovascular disease in developed countries, applying them in DCs is challenging and complex. To utilize resources efficiently, two key decisions have to be made by policy makers in all DCs. The...
